The city of Gresham has become the seventh city in Oregon – and the 14th in the country – to be named a Green Power Community by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA hands out the designation to cities in which local government, businesses and residents purchase green power in amounts that meet or exceed EPA guidelines.

The city ranks as the third largest green power community in Oregon based on total megawatts purchased, according to the EPA.

More than 1,250 homes and businesses in Gresham are enrolled in one of the renewable energy programs offered by Portland General Electric.
