UO makes Princeton's 'Honor Roll'POSTED: 02:04 PM PDT Monday, July 28, 2008 The Princeton Review has put the University of Oregon on its new Green Rating Honor Roll. The honor roll is a measure of how environmentally friendly, responsible and committed higher education institutions are. The rating is a numerical score on a scale of 60 to 99 that the Princeton Review tallied for 534 colleges, concerning their environmental policies, practices and academic offerings. UO was among six public and five private schools on the honor roll. In the Northwest, the University of Washington also made the list. The Princeton Review developed the green rating system with ecoAmerica, a nonprofit marketing agency. In addition to its LEED-certified buildings, UO offers more than 200 sustainability related courses in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. Its chemistry program has been recognized for efforts to reduce hazardous waste. Faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Journalism and Communication are known for their research and teaching in sustainability. |
